For licensed salons that opened before September 15, 1976, and are operated by one licensee, the salon floor area must have sufficient space to properly install necessary equipment to ensure client health and safety. The salon floor space must be a minimum of 10’ x 12’ or 120 square feet. For licensed salons operated by more than one licensee, the salon floor area must have an extra 60 square feet for each additional licensee.
HB 2727 also introduces a temporary salon license that allows cosmetologists to operate a salon. The salon license will require an application form and a fee that will be no more than $100. The temporary salon license will be valid for 90 days. The salon license will only be issued to cosmetologists who have practiced for a minimum of three years.
