Am I Qualified?
The Board consists of seven members appointed by the governor. Candidates applying for the barber vacancy must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Hawaii
- Hold a current and active barbering license
* Candidates associated with a barbering or cosmetology school, or an apprenticeship program, must disclose that affiliation.
Candidates applying for the public member vacancy must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Hawaii
- Not be connected to the barbering or cosmetology industry

- Fill out the required information—you must attach a letter of interest and resume and can include up to three personal references.
About The Board
The purpose of the Board is to regulate the practice of barbering and cosmetology in Hawaii. The Board is responsible for various duties. It establishes rules governing the practice of barbering and cosmetology; approves licensing examinations; issues, suspends, or revokes licenses or apprentice permits; and creates standards and requirements for apprenticeships and training provided by schools.
