Up-and-coming cosmetologists now have an alternative pathway to work toward licensure. In March, Governor Eric Holcomb signed into law House Bill 1135 (HB 1135), establishing a cosmetology apprenticeship program that broadens the doorway of entry into the cosmetology field.
Cosmetology apprentices would be required to receive oversight from a registered apprenticeship program with the US Department of Labor. Once an individual completes their apprenticeship program, they will be eligible to take the cosmetology licensure examination.
Effective July 1, 2024.
