The rules below were adopted as proposed and went into effect May 27, 2024.
The Maryland Board of Cosmetologists (Board) has proposed a raise in cosmetology fees to cover the Board’s operating costs, including increasing the Board’s revenue and licensee's expenses.

- Salon owner: $56 (currently $50)
- Senior cosmetologist: $28 (currently $25)
- Cosmetologist: $28 (currently $25)
- Blow-dry: $28 (currently $25)
- Esthetician: $28 (currently $25)
- Nail technician: $28 (currently $25)
- Hairstylist: $28 (currently $25)
- Apprentice: $11 (currently $10)
- Pre-opening inspection: $169 (currently $150)
- License reinstatement fee of an expired license (paid in addition to the renewal fee): $28 (currently $25)
- Salon permit reinstatement, in addition to the renewal fee:
- If fewer than 45 days have passed since the permit expired, the salon owner must pay a reinstatement fee of $56 (currently $50)
- If more than 45 days have passed since the permit expired, the salon owner must pay a pre-opening inspection fee of $169 (currently $150)
