As the pandemic worsens in California, Governor Newsom modified the state’s Stay at Home orders on December 3. Essentially the state is split up into five regions:
Northern California: Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity
Bay Area: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma
Greater Sacramento: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, Yuba
San Joaquin Valley: Calaveras, Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, San Benito, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare, Tuolumne
Southern California: Imperial, Inyo, Los Angeles, Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura
Regions that have 15% or less intensive care unit (ICU) bed capacity will be shut down from all but essential services for three weeks. Find out where your region is on the map here. Limiting the mixing of households is encouraged.
If the ICU capacity in a region drops to 15% or less, the following activities must close:
- Indoor and outdoor playgrounds
- Indoor recreational facilities
- Hair salons and barbershops
- Personal care services, including massage therapy, esthetic and skin care services, electrology services, nail services, body art, and tattoo and piercing services, which were listed in the Personal Care Services guidelines from earlier this summer, will also be shut down under the new 15% ICU capacity guidelines.
- Museums, zoos, and aquariums
- Movie theaters
- Wineries
- Bars, breweries, and distilleries
- Family entertainment centers
- Cardrooms and satellite wagering
- Limited services
- Live audience sports
- Amusement parks
- Restaurants will be limited to offering take out only.
As of December 3, 2020:
- Northern California is at 18.60% ICU capacity
- The Bay Area is at 25.3%
- Greater Sacramento is at 22.20%
- San Joaquin Valley is at 19.70%
- Southern California is at 20.6%
We encourage you to monitor the regional map on the state’s COVID-19 website frequently to determine whether your region is at or below the 15% threshold. Once below this threshold, it is our understanding that the region has 48 hours to shut down.
