Michigan COVID-19 State Update

On May 22, 2020, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued Executive Order 2020-99 (https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/0,9309,7-387-90499_90705-530039--,00.html), extending the declaration of state of emergency through June 19, 2020. The Governor previously issued Executive Order 2020-69 (https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/0,9309,7-387-90499_90705-527830--,00.html), closing businesses offering nonessential personal care services through May 28, 2020, but specifically allowed “services necessary for medical treatment as determined by a licensed medical provider.”

ABMP spoke with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) on May 26, 2020, and received confirmation that massage is allowed in the state of Michigan if the practitioner is working with a licensed medical provider. Those working in a medical setting must comply with paragraph 9 of Executive Order 97 (https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/0,9309,7-387-90499_90705-529864--,00.html).

Additional Safety Resources

ABMP, ASCP, AHP, and ANP understand there is a fine line between getting back to work and earning an income and protecting the safety of you and your clients. When Michigan gradually reopens, we urge you to make government permission to work only one element of your decision about whether and when to reopen. We encourage you to prepare yourself to resume business operations when the time comes. Please review our comprehensive series of back-to-practice guidelines to help reduce risk and keep you and your clients safe.

We also have helpful forms and printouts available on our website, (https://www.abmp.com/back-to-practice/forms-printouts) including office policies, screening questionnaires, and posters to remind clients about social distancing and handwashing.

We appreciate your membership and will continue working on your behalf to update you as we learn more. Be safe and be well.
